The RAPS Course

This course offers you a great sense of achievement because you jump all by
yourself !

The Ram Air Progression System ( RAPS ) course consists of a minimum of 6 hours of theory and practical training and your first jump.  This will usually be over the space of 2 days. All students must be physically fit and mentally alert to complete the training.

The RAPS course is the first step to becoming a qualified skydiver.  This can be achieved in as little as 18 jumps.

Your first solo jump is from a height of around 3,500ft.  A ‘static line’ will automatically open your ‘square’ parachute as you fall away from the aircraft.

The course covers all aspects of safety, equipment, aircraft exits, canopy control and landings.  All of the procedures are practised on the ground until your BPA Instructor is completely satisfied with your progress.

Your ground school training is valid for 3 months. Further jumps must also be no more than 3 months apart.  For details about further jumps see RAPS Progression.

There are a maximum of 12 people per course.  Ground school training will go ahead regardless of weather conditions. Student parachutists are allowed to jump in wind speeds of up to 15 knots/ 18 mph. Low cloud, rain or wind speeds exceeding 18mph would delay or postpone your jump. In the event of poor weather conditions you would simply arrange an alternative date to be at the centre to complete your jump.

You will be provided with all necessary equipment.
Comfortable clothing is advisable and trainers are ideal footwear.

There is a minimum age limit of 16 ( under 18’s require parental consent )
